Ants are more than just a nuisance. In fact, they are one of the most difficult pests to eliminate throughout Northwest Arkansas, and they can cause a lot of damage to your property. It is easy for a colony with thousands of ants to develop before you notice that there is an issue. If you are unlucky enough to have carpenter ants on your property, you could end up needing to pay for extensive structural repairs or even replace mature trees. Therefore, if you have an ant infestation, it is important to contact Action Pest and Turf right away.

Ant Service Calls

Our experienced team of pest control technicians can handle any type of ants. However, the most common issue in Northwest Arkansas is the Odorous House Ant. This species is characterized by a distinctly sweet coconut smell that is released when they are crushed. Odorous House Ants are typically 1/16″ to 1/8″ long, and they are dark brown or black.

These ants are typically noticed in the kitchen because this provides them with a good resource for water and food. It is important to note that most over the counter pesticides will not give you the anticipated results. Instead, these products will make the infestation worse, and they could also be unsafe for your family and pets. Unfortunately, ants are able to avoid many insecticides, and they will even split into multiple colonies to steer clear of the spray. In other words, attempting to fix the problem by yourself could actually cause the ants to get trapped inside your home.

Controlling an Infestation

The only sure way to completely remove Odorous House Ants or any other species is to find their nest. You might assume that the nest is nearby, but this is not necessarily the case. For example, one of our service calls in Springdale showcased just how far ants will travel to reach the kitchen. We followed the trail of ants from the kitchen into the attic, along the back-porch ceiling, along the privacy fence and finally to the back of the client’s yard. We found and removed a massive nest that had been built into a pallet of bricks that was left behind by the builder.

How Can I Prevent Ants in Arkansas?

Ants will build their nest in a wide variety of locations, including inside walls, in landscaping and underneath planters or outside furniture. You can minimize your risk of getting ants by keeping your lawn well-maintained and free of debris. You also need to keep fire wood as far away from your house as possible, and always clean up crumbs immediately. Additionally, you need to repair any seal or caulk cracks and quickly fix water leaks.

It takes a properly trained and highly experienced technician to win the battle against ants. We include ants in our Pest service plan, and we can also offer one-time assistance.
